Vintage Dürkopp 108 K Treadle Sewing Machine with Original Wooden Table & Cast-Iron Pedal Base

Original vintage Dürkopp 108 K mechanical sewing machine, presented in its period wooden sewing table with treadle-operated cast-iron mechanism.

The machine carries the prominent DÜRKOPP name across the black enamel body and is clearly marked 108 K. on the pillar, together with the original Dürkopp emblem. Dürkopp is one of Germany’s historic sewing-machine manufacturers, originating in Bielefeld in the 19th century. The company traces its sewing-machine history to Nikolaus Dürkopp’s first machine in 1861 and the establishment of Dürkopp & Schmidt in 1867.

This example is a traditional fully mechanical machine mounted into a dedicated wooden sewing cabinet/table. The photographs show the large side handwheel, needle and presser-foot assembly, thread guides and spool pins, mechanical controls and the original-style black enamel bed with gold decorative lining.

Dürkopp has a particularly significant place in German sewing-machine history. Bielefeld became one of Germany’s major sewing-machine manufacturing centres during the 19th century, and Dürkopp subsequently developed into an important manufacturer of sewing and industrial machinery. The company eventually concentrated increasingly on industrial sewing technology, and the Dürkopp and Adler businesses were combined as Dürkopp Adler in 1990.

Condition

The machine and table are in vintage unrestored condition with substantial age-related character.

The black enamel finish of the sewing machine remains generally attractive and the Dürkopp lettering and 108 K markings are clearly visible. There is dust, surface wear, oxidation/tarnishing to exposed metal components, scratches and other signs consistent with long-term storage and use.

The wooden table shows considerably more visible wear, particularly across the work surface. There are numerous scratches, finish loss, discoloration, abrasions, edge wear and other age-related marks. The legs and lower structure also show wear.

The treadle pedal, large drive wheel and associated mechanical components are present. The machine appears substantially complete from the photographs, although completeness of every small accessory or internal component cannot be guaranteed.

Given its age, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment and potentially further servicing should be expected before regular use.
