Large Vintage 3-Piece Bronze-Style Figural Mantel Clock Garniture with Pair of 5-Light Candelabra

1.200 $

Large vintage three-piece French-style mantel garniture comprising an ornate mechanical figural clock and matching pair of five-light candelabra. Rich Rococo-style decoration with pastoral figures, Roman numeral dial, elaborate scrollwork and aged bronze/brass finish. Impressive statement set with traditional mechanical clock movement.

Impressive and highly decorative three-piece European-style mantel garniture, consisting of a large mechanical mantel clock accompanied by a matching pair of ornate five-arm candelabra.

The central clock features an elaborate sculptural pastoral scene depicting a young couple with a child, surrounded by flowers, foliage, vessels and richly modelled architectural ornament. The clock face is particularly attractive, with individual white cartouches carrying black Roman numerals around an ornate central dial.

The case is exceptionally detailed throughout, with scrolling Rococo-inspired feet, floral motifs, pierced ornament, relief panels and extensive sculptural decoration.

The rear opening reveals a traditional mechanical clock movement with bell, an important feature distinguishing it from modern battery-operated decorative reproductions.

The two matching candelabra each accommodate five candles and repeat the rich ornamental language of the clock, including scrolling branches, decorated candle cups, urn-shaped central bodies, sculptural handles and substantial multi-footed bases.

Together, the three pieces form a large and visually imposing decorative ensemble suitable for a mantelpiece, console, entrance hall, formal living room, library or period interior.

Dating & Material Assessment

I would describe this conservatively as vintage European-style / French-style rather than claim that it is an original 19th-century French garniture.

The design clearly draws from 19th-century French Rococo Revival mantel garnitures, but the casting and construction visible in the photographs could belong to a later 20th-century reproduction.

The mechanical movement is encouraging and makes the piece more interesting than a purely decorative modern reproduction, but I cannot identify a maker or movement manufacturer from the photograph.

I also would not state “solid bronze” as fact yet. For the listing, bronze-tone cast metal / brass-tone metal is safer until material is verified.
